We've all seen enough profile pictures to last us a lifetime but as the market becomes saturated we welcome in the newest development in the NFT profile space... Headers!
It's a great idea, while everyone is busy throwing out 10k collections and other takes on the PFP craze the innovators have moved on to the largest available picture space on your profile. There are limited options in headers currently but recently I have noticed more and more attempts to dominate the space. Here is my experience of two of the biggest players so far.
PunkScape
This is one of the strangest ways I've found a project, during the days of my DotDotDots obsession I would spend hours trying to work out the latest clues or finding out more about the people that first minted and how they discovered such an elusive project.
With the help of the community we trawled transactions and social media profiles and found someone that we believed to be connected then tracked his wallet to see what inside information we could gather. Ultimately tracking this guy offered no results but one day he minted something called OneDayPunks, the DotDotDots server discussed it and decided that this guy knows something so we better all mint one, the active community all went to the site and minted.
The chief utility of OneDayPunks seemed to have been the ability to mint a Punkscape, there was quite a wait for the scapes to be released but once they were I rushed to get mine.
Recently I won this Punkscape in a giveaway.
The guy behind Punkscape is called Jalil, I won't pretend I understand the working behind what he is doing but he has a lot of technical ability and a clear vision of utility and status that he continues to bring to Punkscape. He is always in the Discord server with updates and actively involves the community in projects and development. He awarded ETH to members that created rarity checkers and has members working on future additions such as animation. If you are looking for a header NFT with a strong community, a developer that treats the project like his child and a lot of future utility then PunksScape could be the one you are looking for.
The art fits with the popular pixel style and part of the future use is the ability to integrate other NFTs into your PunkScape, the first collections to feature will be Kongz, Toadz, DystoPunks, Fast Food Punks, and PixelFoxes with Jalil saying future integration will be "easy". Not only this but they are focusing a lot of effort on social media profiles and with the recent news coming from Facebook and Twitter I don't think it will be long before we are seeing full ENS linked NFT profiles and PunkScape could be among the first to offer the full service.
For me, PunkScape is the OG of this category and I'm happy to be part of it.

Metti Landscapes
My entry into Metti Landscapes was a lot more conventional, yet another collection that I found through OpenSea activity. I noticed a lot of people buying something called Standametti, I had a quick look at what it was about and found out about the artist Pumpametti, they had three collections at the time, Pumpametti, Pettametti, and Standametti. The more I read the more I wanted to join the community so I had a quick look at entry points, Pumpametti and Pettametti were both over 1 ETH floor which was a little bit rich for me so I decided on the much more accessible Standametti and bought one at floor price for around 0.13 ETH including gas. The floor is currently around 0.05 however this project offers enough that the price doesn't concern me.
Pumpametti announced a new collection called Metti Landscapes that would soon be available and there would be a tiered minting process, free for Pumpa holders, 0.03 ETH for Petta holders, and 0.04 for Standa holders. There were only 2,000 Landscapes available and for the first time in my NFT career I had a bit of ETH available to go for it on the mint. I can't lie, I had visions of minting a rare and was convinced I was going to get one so I minted 4 and won 1 in a giveaway, in the suspense filled period between mint and reveal I further deluded myself that I was about to mint the rarest one and people would be throwing ETH at me.
This leads me on to something I think is really good about this collection, there is enough variety that you can be happy with whatever Landscape you end up with, yes there are rare pieces but every Landscape has a number of traits as well as the striking visuals which are typically "Metti". In my opinion, great artists can be recognised immediately from their work and Pumpametti certainly falls into this category, their style is unique and sought after in the NFT community. The art may look simple but it has gained the attention of some notable names, not only this but when you buy a piece from Pumpametti you are buying access to the community which is very active and has a loyalty which is hard to acquire. There is a good outlook and promising innovation which opens many avenues for this whole collection, including the recent introduction of a token called Metti Inu, Pumpametti appears to be incredibly ambitious and is determined to deliver value to holders which is something that should be strongly considered when buying into any NFT.
There are a wide range of Landscapes to choose from, colours, beasts, or a friendly gm written in the sky there are plenty of options to suit your taste. Of course there is no guarantee with the future of any project but when the foundations and track record are as strong as this one it is definitely worth a look.
