King of Memecoins?

Last week I had a brief trip over to mainland Europe to visit Hungary. I'll save you the holiday review and get straight to one of the most profitable parts of the trip.

One evening while sitting on my bed I was alerted to a coin that clearly had a lot of potential while at the same time being completely worthless, it was everything you could want from a memecoin.

The coin in question was born from the imagination of a US politician, Rep. Brad Sherman of California's 30th congressional district. In a viral video where our friend Mr. Sherman couldn't look more out of touch if he tried Brad announced "Bitcoin could be displaced by Ether, which could be displaced by Dodge (?) which could be displaced by HamsterCoin, and then there's CobraCoin" but it was the next line that stole the show "What could MongooseCoin do to CryptoCoin?" 

This was the moment a new King was born. 

In an effort to highlight potential issues with cryptocurrencies Brad Sherman had decided to take the noble step of leading the way to greatness, a pioneer if you will. Politicians are often accused of all talk and no action but here was a man that was happy to put his reputation on the line for the good of the world.

After Brad Sherman's outburst it didn't take long for the coin to be created, many of them in fact. A guy I follow on Twitter, a self confessed "Altcoin hunter", called Crypto ฿itlord had posted one morning saying that he had bought into MongooseCoin thanks to suggestion from Brad Sherman, I had some money in my bank so I bought some on December 9, sat back and waited for Brad's baby to take off.

The story isn't finished there, the community is a lively one and have given themselves the name of "Mongress" which I think is great and exactly the sort of innovation Rep. Sherman would be proud of. Not only this but after his recent announcement for people to help with the Kentucky aid relief there was only ever going to be one outcome, the MongooseCoin community donated $5000 dollars and Brad took to twitter to congratulate his fanbase.

Not only that but community members are even adopting Moongooses online, sponsoring them via zoo schemes. 

So far the coin has shot up to $105m market cap in what we should still consider the early days of this adventure. With the continued support of one of America's most loved politicians as well as Altcoin powerhouse Crypto ฿itlord and an enthusiastic community there is a lot of talk of the potential of MoongooseCoin. It's still too early to say if it will ever achieve it's goal of displacing CryptoCoin but certainly for now there is reason to be optimistic.

When you consider the value some memecoins have or have had in the past there is no reason to think a coin born in the US Congress couldn't reach the same heights as more popular names.

I'm going to continue to watch my little bag of MoongooseCoin and hope for a profit but it is certainly a project worth checking out just for awareness even if you decide not to buy any. I'm also excited to see what comes next from the devs, they have announced exciting news in the coming days but we've seen and heard this countless times before so i'll believe it when I see it.
